This suggests the quality is fluid or changeable as opposed to quality that is fixed or immutable (unable to move or shift).

    1. The term "mutable" is a quality assigned to a sign. ... Mutable signs mediate change and change their modes of expression frequently. They are often described as being diplomatic and assisting others through transitions. They can also be perceived as being inconsistent, uncommitted and unreliable.

    2. A person who is easily "guided" by persuasion. A flip-flopper,  One who "follows the wind".
