Honeywell CT3600/CT3697 Programmable Thermostat No display. Changed batteries, cleaned terminals. Nothing. Suggestions?

Its had this problem off & on in the past but I could always get something by jiggling it.

This time nothing. I see replacements are cheap but is it possible to get one where I don't have to remove the backing that is already there? I just want my heat to work. I hate the darn thing. It has like 9 and 4 pins in the back of it.

Update:

Already replaced the batteries even thought told one ones were not dead.

Update 2:

And just like that, out of nowhere, it started working again. Better cancel the walmart pickup order.

iTS $19 at walmart and its returnable. And I don't know how to test the wiring but how could it be bad all of a sudden? Isn't it more likely its the thermostat?
