Is it possible to use only black ink in an EPSON xp 440 printer?

You can probably print in greyscale, which uses only black. However, that machine needs to be fully functional in all respects, which includes holding working colour cartridges whether you use them or not, otherwise it won't work.

It depends on the printer. Some of the newer models of printers won't print at all if one of the cartridges is empty (to prevent possible damage to one cartridges), and some printers don't even have the option to print using only the black ink cartridge. However, it's always worth a try!

When you want to print press CTL+P on your keyboard.  This will open Print Control.

    Select GREY SCALE.

    This uses only Black Ink.

When that printer goes by-by, get your self a Black and White Laser Printer.

If you want to print color pictures put them on a USB and take them to Staples. You will find it cheaper then doing it your self.
