Was the Homestead Act socialism?

Getting as much free land as you want as long as you build a fence on it or pile up a few rocks.

Update:

Socialism means getting things for free even though you aren’t a billionaire.

Socialism is defined by Webster as "systems of central planning (which translates to central government running everything)"

Anything that is done collectively is a form of socialism. It is an umbrella description.

Family units are referred to as socialistic. Doesnt work the same as a big government nanny state of course because the members of the latter have no reason to care for the others.

2nd sentence is straight out lie. Socialism has evolved from every form of previous systems. French and Russian revolutions switched from monarchies to socialist sh(twholz in singular swell foops (revolutions).

But they did give them farmer welfare when republicans demanded it as a compromise for allowing food stamps.

at the time of the Homestead Act, there were still numerous countries where a man who shot a deer to feed his starving family could be imprisoned for poaching the king or queen's animals.... and those who were granted land to build cottages and farms still never owned the lands, but instead merely worked them to produce for their ruling monarch....

....you might know the names of those countries.... just about every one of them today practices what we now call "democratic socialism"....

Socialism =/= free stuff. It's when the government controls the means of production. So no, the homestead act wasn't socialism.

That is not what socialism means at all. I am honestly not sure if you are troll, or if you are just illiterate. This is hard.

Not sure how that fits the definition of socialism in any way. No clue how you could even begin to think it does.

    >"Socialism means getting things for free even though you aren’t a billionaire. "

It literally does not LOL where did you get such a stupid definition? Socialism is collective/democratic control over the means of production, it is an economy driven not by the authority of private owners but by the democratic will of the masses.
