If you oppose the act of denigrating and ostracizing people for their opinions, how can you value free speech?

I strongly believe people have the right to say what they will in public spaces without the government silencing them.

I also strongly believe I have the right to react to idiocy by denigrating their ideas and ostracizing them from my social group for holding morally repugnant opinions.

I don't oppose it and feel you should be denigrated and ostracized constantly.

There are still laws against harassment and defamation of character.

There are.  It seems some people think "free speech" means something like "I can say anything I want and not face consequences."
