    I learned in the playground at school,j ust listening to the kids talking, I thought they were joking.

      You're welcome, likewise through kids talking, not through sex education classes that's for sure.

    A book my mom gave me when I was maybe 10 or so. Yeah..It explained everything.

    My parents were quite religious and reserved.  My dad would never have spoken of this, at least not to his daughters.

    The night before there was a scheduled presentation at school to address this issue, my mom made an attempt to give me a heads up. 

    As I recall she said something like, "Ok, there's a thing called a period.  And you're going to find out about this tomorrow."  She really was unable to say more, just too embarrassed.

    To their credit, at least they signed off on my attending the presentation.
