Can my credit card be charged after I payed the bill at a restaurant?

I was at lunch with a friend and I had to leave early. He didnt have his wallet so I payed and left. If he decided to order more can my card be charged for that extra food?

Yes, if you did not close the bill when you left.

Did you pay the bill to that point and sign the receipt?

Yes I paid for the food we ordered and signed the receipt.

When you pay a bill at a restaurant, you are only charged for what you ordered before your server brought you your check.

The only time you can be charged extra is if you open some kind of account or tab and you do not ask an employee to close it. Most restaurants do not run on account or tab systems. You will usually find those things in places like bars or on cruise ships, for example.

No. You pay what you signed for.

The word is 'paid'.  Your receipt is evidence that you paid and also shows the amount.  If this does not match your credit card statement, you will  be able to dispute the amount and you will  win.

You only pay for the bill you received before you actually paid it

Once you have paid the check, that is it for anything else being on the card

In place of any other means of paying, the restaurant will try to have you (or your card) pay for the meal.

Really depends on the restaurant and how ethical they are. They shouldn't but doesn't mean they won't.

No, once you've signed, you've paid for that amount and that's all. more food would have to be paid by your friend.
