Trump ran for President in 2000 as well.  If he had stayed in the race and got a nomination, would he have had a better chance of winning?

    No. The Reform party was never going anywhere, and after Ross Perot served his purpose in 1992, the party couldn't decide whether it was "reforming" to the left or right. Pat Buchanan one year, Ralph Nader another year. Bleh.
