Which is worse, being lost at uncharted sea or deep space?

Deep space. You have no "surface as a reference point. At sea, you still have the Sun and stars you can navigate by with you as the origin point of your personal coordinate system. In deep space, the reference stars you used on Earth are moving and may not be visible or can disappear.
