What foods are in season in January? (USA)?

Seasonal eating is essentially buying, cooking and eating produce at a time of year when it is naturally ready for harvest.

Apples top the list, and all meats are in season year round. In winter local veggies in season are the root variety. You can get salad fixings and such from California through part of the winter, and strawberries and avocados from Florida but most fresh green veggies come from South America.

It depends where you live. Right now in Minnesota, seasonal food is SNOW.

Pretty much everything is available. Just not a lot that's local.

Root vegetables, apples, and citrus, if you're looking for the real deal. Hot houses make damn near anything you want possible, though to me, it's not the same at all. Fresh fruits, like berries won't come until spring.

    what part of the USA?

I live in upper midwest and we have a foot of snow on the ground and temps ranging from 30 degrees down to 10 below zero. NOTHING is in season here.

If you are talking about states like Florida, all sorts of things are growing now.

Depends to some extent on where you live. In much of the country, nothing is in season in January. In the south there will be some things.
