Are lotto scratchers a good way to make some extra money?

I bought $40 worth of scratchers today and won $44! So if I buy $400 worth, I would make $40!

Sure, just keep believing that.  Why don't you try it and see how long it takes to lose your $400.

No. You got lucky this time. On average, you lose money. If you buy $400 worth, you are more likely to lose money than to make $40.

No, you got lucky to come out ahead with the $40 worth of scratchers. Buying $400 worth you would almost always lose money, probably lose around $200 on average,

You might, but you might also get back far less than $400. These games are designed to earn money for the states that run them, and the only way to do that is to pay out quite a bit less than what is taken in. Spend $400 on the wrong tickets at the wrong time and there is a slim chance you will get back $50 or less and a GOOD chance you will get back no more than $300.

Wow, great idea!  Hey, are there any Indian casinos where you live?  You can lose money a lot faster!

I never had a scratcher in my life, except one my GF bought me years ago.  I won $2, gave her back her dollar, and retired a winner.  8^)

No not always so... No it's not an effective way to do so.

I bought one yesterday for $10, won $30. Bought another one for $10, and made $0. It's not an effective way to do it.
