Is it normal to call sombody my good man all the time and is it a mean thing to say?

A friend of mine keeps saying my good man every sentence.

It is at best archaic.  I would not call it "normal".  I also would not think that it is supposed to insult.

It is not unusual, but also not necessarily normal. The problem is it may appear to be condescending, meaning it could reflect talking down to someone or asserting an air of superiority.

It was popular years ago.  It is not inherently a bad thing, and generally was positive, but some people say outdated things to be jerks.  I had someone call me their fine feathered friend, but he meant no harm in it so I went with it.
