Is it normal to hurt for other people?

This lady I barely knew just died and I just found out that she was a dear friend of my grandma's and I can't stop crying.

That is what is called empathy. That is a good quality to have. Very normal but not nearly common enough. It will be difficult when we get older and start seeing all our friends and relatives dying leading up to our own death.

You're probably experiencing sympathy for Grandma - this is common

It is for some.  You care about your grandma and know this is going to be painful for her.
