Can I house other fish with a betta fish?

Hello I was wondering if it would be possible to house a male betta fish with other species of fish without him trying to possibly Attacking? I am looking into getting a fish tank and I really want a betta. I want at least 3-4 fish and was thinking maybe a five gallon tank will be big enough if I can house him with other fish?

Just so you know I am not planning on putting him a smaller tank if he has to be alone. I want him to have a good quality life with plenty of room to live in but I would feel bad if he doesn’t necessarily HAVE to be alone you know? I have really no knowledge of fish housing requirements but I would like to know so I can give them a comfortable life

don't add different types of fish together. the weak will be starved, and the strong will be overfed
