If the GOP is so sure that "overwhelming evidence" of Trump's guilt doesn't exist, why do they refuse to hear from witnesses?

Because this whole farce is about timing. The leftists want to run the clock and lie whilst the media proclaims their lies as fact.

The way the system works is that that House comes up with the evidence and uses it to develop the articles of impeachment. If, as they say, they already have "overwhelming evidence" it should be contained in the materials they transmit to the Senate and there should be no need to get more or interview more witnesses. That should have been done in the House and if they failed to do that's on them. Do-overs aren't allowed.

The Sentate's job is to act as jurors when the House presents the evidence they found during their investigation and the White House defends itself....NOT to re-investigate.
If the House wanted more evidence/witnesses, they should have issued supoenaes during the course of their partisan circus of an investigation and waited for the 3rd Branch of Government to rule on them. - the way it was designed to work.

The Impeachniks in the House had unlimited opportunity to present witnesses. The witnesses had nothing to say. In fact, legally speaking, they were not even legitimate witnesses. They were libtards with negative thoughts and feelings about Trump. So, enough already. Get it?

I don't think you understand how this works.
If the Democrats already have overwhelming evidence, they don't need to go on a fishing expedition with additional witnesses who the House never questioned. The evidence they already have should suffice.
That they want to go on a fishing expedition with more witnesses shows that their claims of "overwhelming evidence" are just lies.

Because they are NOT sure of that, and they don't want the truth to come out. They may lose their false, dementia-addled idol.

Because that's all they got.
Outside of the cult they've managed to cultivate, it's obvious to everyone Trump's nothing but a crook.
He's as transparent a self-serving jerk as you'll ever hope to see.
Somehow, in the conservative religion, they feel this will lead to a good result, because altruism is unnatural. Trump is being ''real''.
If he wasn't rich, of course, he'd be in jail, or would have had some sense beaten into him at some point. We all know that.
Of course there's evidence of a crime. There is evidence of countless crimes with this guy. All through his career and continuing into his presidency. He steals from veterans' charities for f.s.!
The challenge was to settle for one.
The more you know about Trump the more obvious he's a fundamentally horrible person who should not be anywhere near any public office, let alone the highest one in the land.
That's why they've been blocking everything from the start.
Every time you turn a rock over with Trump, there's a crime.

The Democrats already presented a case they claimed was solid enough to sign and present articles of impeachment . It's supposed to be time to judge the case

Good question. Why didn't the democratic Congress want to hear from witnesses?
