The most rare or unrealistic thing about soap opera's; is the way ex husbands and wives, and their ex husbands and wives get along so well.

Turning your back to the person you're arguing with (you know, so the camera can catch both of your facial expressions in the same shot).

All the Mothers with babies have INSTANT baby sitters it seems, and the dogs in the soaps seem to disappear from sight on a regular basis. eg: Lady Di in E/enders has not been seen for months and Maria`s Labrador in Corrie disappeared ages ago without explanation. The only regular dog now is Evelyn's Greyhound.

Lady Di is there very occasionally but otherwise you are right.  And what about Beale's Basset, last seen disappearing round a corner there LOL   And didn't Roxy have a Boxer at one point, before she drowned in the pool?

No one cooks or cleans or grocery shops. They just sit around in beautiful clothes looking gorgeous.

It amazes me that characters can treat each other like dirt then be best friends. I don't know how most of the characters on soaps could even stand being in the same room with each other after all the awful things they have done.

Take Sonny and Ava on general hospital, she murdered the love of his life and switched his son's medication and directly caused his death, yet they have a daughter and manage to share custody pretty well.

The age progression of the child characters. They're a baby on Monday's episode and a college student on Tuesday's.

There's even a term for it -- SORAS (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome).

The "good guy" is willing to not engage in sexual activities with the sexy slut of the show and waits around for the "good girl" to fall in love together. Oo and the bad guy always wears a black leather jacket or black hat.

I think this is especially true with American soaps where the actors all having perfect skin.  It was quite an eye-opener coming back to the UK and seeing so many characters with spots and pimples.
