Eight gig ram is not modern 1985 386 could do 16meg. 1995 Pentium could do GB.

Depending on what you have you might need a bios upgrade or proper ram installation.

If you want to run more ram you really don't want to screw with your old board even if its socketed you want to install a PCI CPU card with the eight GB on that.

Even NT could handle multi CPU systems and every modern windows starting with windows 2000 is multi CPU. All other systems including Mac have always been multi CPU.

So use a PCI CPU card.

A 13-year-old computer is generally cannot be upgraded. Most computer motherboards accommodate one type of CPU chip and won't run with newer models.

This is not possible to use any processor with any computer. You have need same specification to work on computer. It can be cause of circuit, So be careful.

Just because a motherboard has the proper socket doesn't mean it can necessarily accept any processor that uses that socket. Before you begin an upgrade, verify the compatibility of your motherboard with the upgrade processor you are considering.

You have to buy new processor...

NO, because the motherboard will not support any new processor. However, the cost will be same.

    No.

You can't just mix and match. Too many generations of processors nowadays. Make sure all the parts you have are compatible to each other.

At the moment, it is cheaper to buy a whole branded CPU secondhand rather than gamble with building your own from scrap.

No of course not. a CPU of 13 years ago is not going to interchange with a modern motherboard neither is a modern CPU going to work with a computer that's 13 years old if you really want to fix your 13 year old computer you can go on eBay and you can find the processor probably for twenty $ but putting a processor in a computer isn't for a person that has no idea what they're doing. But it might be a good learning experience for you.

No, you have to make sure the processor is compatible with the motherboard and the correct bios revision is installed to support the processor.
