Rearranging an equation?

How would I rearrange this equation to the format of y=mx+c?

2x - y + 8 = 0

  • 2x - y + 8 = 0

    - y = - (2x + 8)

    y = 2x + 8

    Here,

    m = 2

    c = 8

    2x-y+8=0

    =>

    y=2x+8

    =>

    m=2

    c=8

    2x-y+8 =0. Add y to both sides getting y = 2x +8.

    2x - y + 8 = 0

    Add 'y' to both sides

    2x - y + y + 8 = y

    -y + y = 0

    Hence

    2x + 8 = y

    or

    y = 2x + 8

    2x - y + 8 = 0

    Isolate the y term

    2x + 8 = y

    2x - y + 8 = 0

    Solve for y.  First move all terms to the other side by subtracting them from both sides:

    -y = -2x - 8

    y has a coefficient of -1, so divide both sides by that, and you have your answer:

    y = 2x + 8

    (or you could have just added "y" to both sides and gotten the same thing, except your "y" would have been on the right side, but would still be the same equation)

    It is then y = 2x +8
