Chemistry ?

An Arg residue is mutated to Ala in a receptor. Ligand binding to this receptor decreases 100-fold. What does this tell you about the interaction between the ligand and receptor?

    Because the side chain of Arg is positively charged, the result suggests that the interaction with the receptor involves a critical electrostatic attraction between the positive Arg residue with some perhaps negatively charged portion of the ligand.
