why are there people called ethyl?

i actually KNOW someone with this name, and was wondering what the parents were smoking. isn't that a brand of gasoline?!

     It’s Ethel. Not even pronounced the same 🙄

    It's an old English name that existed long before ethyl was used as a type of alcohol or gas.

    Ethel is a name. And pronounced differently than ethyl alcohol. Two very different things

    With that spelling yes, but Ethel is a traditional name that’s been around for centuries. It’s old fashioned but I quite like it.

    'Ethel' , note the spelling, is n old fashioned Anglo-Saxon female name.

    'ethyl' is the adjective to a two- carbon chemical.

    My mother was named Ethel and was named long before there was ethyl gasoline.

    Except that it's spelled Ethel and it comes from the Old English
