The Jews originated in Israel.  Nowadays, you find other people who have adopted that religion and may or may not have any Israeli - Middle Eastern blood/DNA in them at all.

    Eastern Europe.

The earliest Jews (17th century) who settled in the US were Sephardim -- people whose ancestors had spent centuries in Spain and Portugal. Then, there was a later wave of German Jews -- Ashkenazim -- in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. However, the vast majority of Jews who immigrated here were Ashkenazim from eastern Europe. They arrived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

My husband is Jewish.  His maternal immigrant ancestors came from Kiev (or Kyiv) in Ukraine.  His paternal immigrant ancestors were Polish Jews.
