    not always. there is the Upgrade route or the full install from scratch(erases all disk contents first which means you lose ALL INSTALLED software and your files). the second option is the way to go. In many cases a windows 7 pc is not obliged to provide working drivers for windows 10 operation and you will need a modern gpu so some may not be suitable in the first place. You may want to find the HP initials software folder(C:\HP.....) and copy its contents to a usb stick as it has the drivers for all your devices. you may also want to keep a screen shot of your Device manager which has the NAMES of all your devices before you do anything as windows need may ask you what is your wifi card called? and you wont know.

    Microsoft wanted anybody with a legal 7 or 8 to upgrade to 10 and allow you to do it for free still.

    As it is an upgrade instead of a clean install non of your programs or data will be lost unless they are incompattible which is unlikely except for security programs.

    Have a read of this safe link;

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/139745-upgrade...

    Might take several installation attempts before it sticks, regards, Bob UK.

    Maybe but why? Win7 is far more stable than 10. If you're worried about the end of support then good riddance! I'm still on XP.

    not recommended. unless your model has Win10 drivers, it will be unusable.

    If the computer isn't too old. Be sure drivers are up to date. And you'll need to buy a license.

    Most Windows 7 computers can take Windows 10, but you should check out the compatibility site to be sure,
