How much should this cost to fix?

Car door won't open from inside. Brought to 2 different mechanics, was quoted 2 prices different by over $200. It's a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT. How much should it cost to fix?

They will have to get inside the door and replace something that has obviously broke to restore normal function. Likely a one or two hour job depending on what they find, plus parts.

Probably the inside door handle broke and needs to be replaced. There are teeth on the lever that break off so the lever cannot pull the operating rod. The part is not very expensive and the job takes less than an hour. The part may cost less than $20, aftermarket. Go to a body shop and see what they estimate in comparison o the dealer. Any decent mechanic should be able to do it. The outside handle is also inexpensive, but it's riveted on, but you don't have to bother with that yet, until it breaks.

Two to three hours labor plus parts.

Takes 1/2 hour if you know what you're doing

I'd charge you a twelve pack and parts. The cost for a mechanic depends on what's wrong.
