why did the & English Spanish have to go to Africa to get slaves to work in the Americas ?

and is the real truth that the "diseases" that supposedly killed the Indians were actually purposely inflicted on them, when they would not be slaves and became openly hostile? (i mean if it was just "an accident"....why it didnt really work both ways? why the white people didnt all die off from diseases from Indians?

Native American populations in the Caribbean were wiped out pretty early on due to disease, abuse, and overwork.  To replace them they turned to African slaves.  Europeans tried to use Native Americans and in some places it worked, particularly in Peru and Mexico which had large sedentary Native populations.  But other places had smaller populations and they were hurt by disease and warfare.  In Spanish America the crown also ruled that Indians could not be enslaved and took steps to protect them.
