The term "Latino" has largely been jettisoned for the more "woke" "Latinx" of late. All that pesky gendering in the romance languages. But it's also an imprecise term that's more sociological than anthropological and it therefore lacks one agreed upon definition. "Hispanic" is easier because that just pertains to language. I've heard "Latinx" explained as someone who's more indigenous than Spanish. But I also have lily white, non Spanish speaking friends who've taken on this mantle just because their surnames end in 'z' (and it's a lot easier to get into college if you call yourself that).
