Joint checking account or not? ?
It’s all about trust.

Definitely a bad idea if you don't have the legal protection of marriage. However, it depends on the circumstances. You may trust your partner very much, but their spending priorities are probably different than yours. It's not a black and white situation; but is very subjective. For instance, one of you may think it's a good idea to buy every warranty offered, while the other feels that in some cases it's not necessary. Both viewpoints are valid, but it does affect how money is spent.

Joint checking account is okay if you're legally married. Otherwise, no

It's not all about trust. It's also about protecting assets from your creditors.

I would keep a separate one for you, and a joint for both of you (IF you trust the person). Always make sure the majority of your money is safe under your own name.

Not a good idea unless you are married.
