Why does my cat lick the walls in the basement? ?

So we have a pretty old home and when I let my cat into the basement she licks the walls. I don’t know if there’s mold or something on them but I don’t know what she’s licking, I don’t see anything. And I don’t know if it’s dangerous! And she begs to go into the basement so she can lick the walls. Do you have any idea why she does this?

She might be licking lead paint residue.

The former owner put some cat nip in the cement, in order to attract cats?

Yeah, but it could be like a million reasons, maybe it's a ginger bread house? How the heck are we supposed to know without more details?
