Why do rifles have scopes on them?

Are they just for looks? They have no reason being on a gun.

Let's see you accurately hit a target at 100 yards without one. Or even hit a target at 500 yards.

I find that a 12-40 30mm tube is a perfect size handle for my hand.

To answer your question I have to disagree with your assertion. They have a clear reason to be there in regards to accuracy. To a certain extent it could be preference, and some simply shoot better with the scope than with the factory sights.

Rifles look more dangerous when they have a scope.  I have scopes on all my rifles, shotguns, and pistols.  I even have scopes on my butcher knives, it helps to see what I am cutting.

I put a scope on my squirrel rifle when I was about 50.  You may justifiably believe that a scope has no reason to be on YOUR rifle, but you have no right to tell me how to use MINE.  (or are you an anonymous Virginia Democrat?)

Scopes absolutely help with increasing the accuracy of hitting the target.

It's to sniper your targets from a cowardly distance.

They're for the lazy hunters out there who are too much of a pu$$y to hunt with a bow and arrow.
