Why are cartoon so inappropriate and vulgar nowadays?
Caught my 5yo son watching this show he says is called "The Family Guy", and I sat down with him. This show, despite being for kids, apparently features the dad character trying to marry his own son, which is incest. How this kind of content is acceptable in a cartoon I have no idea. Cartoons are supposed to be child-friendly.
I caught him watching another show called "Regular Show", and it got away with showing a hungover clown that was supposed to go to a children's party. What are these network censors thinking? Kids will imitate this!

Family guy is not a kids show. That’s why it airs around 9 pm when most kids are getting ready to sleep. If you watch it in the beginning, it says TV-MA.
Seth McFarlane is not known for making family oriented show. Did you watch him when he hosted the oscars. There’s a reason why he wasn’t asked to host it again. He offended just about every actress that has ever done a nude scene. Funny thing is that he didn’t include his girlfriend (Emilia Clark) in the skit even though all she does is get naked on games of thrones in the first season, much less in later seasons.

Family Guy IS NOT a kids show, it was meant for adults, see cartoons arent just for kids anymore, there are ratings now, and many of these are rated R for adults, Regular Show IS for kids, but it shows a lot more because it´s for a older audience (Teenagers and Adults)Source(s): Tv ratings, common sense.

I'd like to say that was a good attempt at trolling, but I'd be lying.

Family Guy is NOT meant for children! It may be a cartoon, but its vulgar, has sexual scenes/inneundos etc, that are not meant for toddlers/young children to see, period! Why would you even sit down and allow him to watch any of it? The second it came on, it should have been turned right off, with a warning that he is NOT to watch that show until he is much older.
I'm not sure what the other show is TBH, never heard of it.

'Cartoons are supposed to be child-friendly'
Are that, right there, is where your confusion lies. While animation/cartoons (in the west at least) were traditionally aimed solely at children, there is no bases for this limitation. Animation is simply an art style, one that can be directed at only children, all ages, or only adults.
We, in the west, have recently started to fully realise this (places like Japan have known for a long time). Hence, the increase in non-child friendly cartoons.
Sadly, not everyone is keeping up with the change and some sites/broadcasters/providers etc flag any cartoon/animation as 'for kids', without taking the time to look at what the show is about. Simple laziness on their part, imagine if they did the same thing with moves and live-action TV. In answer to your question, they are thinking 'Cartoon = kids', a fact that is no longer the case.
The problem lies with the providers who don't take the time to review what they are providing, not the artists who never intend kids to see their shows. You, as a parent, also have a responsibility to monitor what your son is watching, but you seemed to be doing a good job and have caught a few of the non-child friendly shows. Good Job.
Unfortunately, that is all you can really do until the providers step up to the plate.
