If you could afford to start a family, you married at that age.  Some married in their 20s, when they had some money in the bank.  Heiresses and nobles married earlier than the mid 20s. Some at 14.  Some married early due to pregnancy.  Lusty youth. And some to seal the bond of love before going to war.

Yes. The lifespan wasn't as long as it is now, so young people reached milestones early in life in order to have families and continue the human race.

Yes, life was shorter then so women had to have babies when they were quite young.

Yes, it is true that many women were married while teens. Less so for men. This was because life was short and hard, and the sooner a couple could start producing children, the better.

Somewhat, but there's a big difference between then and now. Back then, those who did get married young were more mature and more knowledgeable in matters of life than today's teenagers are.

All of my grandparents were married as teenagers, and so was my mother.

Depends on what "olden days" mean to you. But, in sections of the country it was prevalent well into the 1940s.

There is a lot to take into account. You must look at life expectancy, economic and societal reasons for marrying.

Many people didn't live to 60. Farming was the main way of making a living or even surviving. It takes several people to farm a few acres.

People had large families. The kids worked on the farm. By the time they were 16-18 they knew what they needed to do to survive. They'd start they're own familes.

Some widower married a young wife to have a baby sitter / housewife / bedmate who was a virgin.

Yes. Marriage age was typically 17 for a woman. It could be younger, even in the 1950's Hillbillies were marrying their female cousins at 14. And without contraception it was normal to be pregnant a few months after marriage.
