I just received a message from Amazon Services asking for my personal information, like SSN. Is this legit or is it a scam?

its a scam
think about it Amazon already have all your details so why would they ask you for them again

It's a scam. Don't reply to the message and delete it immediately. Amazon doesn't send you unsolicited emails to ask for your personal information.

It's a scam. Yahoo news had a report on that just this morning.

It's a total scam. Why would they need your SSN for? Are they going to do your taxes? Of course they're not. Do not respond to that.

Never answer or open links in email that ask for such things. It would be rare that they would ask you for that information. You can always check by going directly to their website instead of clicking on any links in the email.

Are you a seller on that platform, if not there is NO reason for them to ever ask you for that information. If you are a seller they may need it for tax purposes, but you would NEVER give that information in an email or ever use a link supplied in such an email. You would go to your sellers account on Amazon and log into it and give it there.
