Did the British create sectarian divisions in Ireland between Roman Catholic Irish and Irish Protestant planters of British decent?
Specifically Northern Ireland with has been a mess since Ulster Plantation of 1609.

I doubt that was intentional.
I think it was purely practical greed.
They wanted that land farmed "fully"
(so that they could tax the proceeds)
and of course they wanted farmers who were "loyal to the crown", who would not foment rebellion, paying for it with the proceeds of that farmland.
They saw the opportunity to take that productive land from the Irish
who were prone to rebel
and give it into loyalist hands
and so that is exactly what they did.

Historically yes, but that was centuries ago, the present inhabitants have to take some responsibility for their behaviour now.
