The frequency of the aa genotype is 26 percent what is the frequency of the AA genotype? Assume that there is only 2 alleles (i.e. a and A)?

    You have no way of knowing.  It is somewhere between 0% and 74% inclusive.

    Are you sure you presented the question here exactly as it was presented to you, with all the background information?

    If you see the words "assume the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium for this gene locus" on the homework sheet that can be applied to your question then you can perform a calculation.

    q^2 = 0.26

    q = 0.51

    p = 1 - q = 0.49

    p^2 = 0.24 (answer)

      Still, JazSinc is correct. Without the statement that the population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, you have no way of knowing. Only when the population is in genetic equilibrium can you do the calculation that he did to end up with 0.24.
