I need help with a question?

If you recently bought a radio at a garage sale. The radio is old and doesn’t work very well. You have a difficult time getting a station during the day. You are just about to throw out the radio when late at night you turn it on. It gets perfect reception and sounds crystal clear. Using what you have learned about radio waves, explain why the radio works at night and does not work during the day.

You should be doing your own homework, but the answer is very very basic.

Even a numbskull like me knows that amplitude modulation (AM radio waves) hug the earth, and travel farther at night. That's why most of your local AM stations sound a bit weaker at night, but you'll shake your head and ask "Why is WWL out of New Orleans carrying all the way to here?". At 50 K watts vs 1 K watts, WWL roars along the clear-channel space.
