Was Princess Diana the most perfect celebrity of the 20th century?

She was the most famous person in the world. It was a great time. Everything was about Diana. Yeah. Good times.

Update:

@Anonymous, hey, be realistic, you mean to be entirely negative.

The same people that slated her wrote nice things when she died, nobody is important while they are still alive. Plus while she did good things she was in no way perfect. I agree she is about as famous as you can get, yes.

Lovely young woman who got into a marriage where the man carried on with a mistress and expected her to carry on as if nothing was wrong. She lived a life devoid of true love in marriage and died a tragic untimely death.

Give your statement/"question" some thought:  she was known to the public (a "celebrity") from 1981 to 1997:  16 years, or 16% of the 20th century.  Hardly the most famous person of the century considering her short time in the spotlight she craved.

Yes, she was famous.  Most liked her when we first learned of her romance with Charles - but she had detractors then just as Markle today.  And certainly there were many more who had a lower opinion of her by the time her affairs became public and she so obviously wanted to cash-in for all she could get.

Take out the final years, and those "good times" hardly represent anything meaningful in the history of the century.  I don't mean to be entirely negative - just realistic.

Dunno about that: she's been dead for 21 years - ask people on the street and many wouldn't recognize her pic or be able to tell you anything about her.  Fame is fleeting.

Diana, Princess of Wales, was not a perfect person, but she was one of the world's most famous women. Her fame came from her marriage to a future King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Diana's appeal was her fresh, friendly manner, her beauty and style. Being photogenic also helped.

The fame was not so great for Diana. She felt trapped. She lost some privacy. The paparazzi's treatment was far from great, following her everywhere, sometimes taunting her and saying hurtful things in order to get a picture of her crying or angry...those were not great times for Diana.

And a word about proper titles and styles. The ill-informed media and people called  Diana,"Princess Diana," but that was not her proper title. A female who assumes her status through marriage does not correctly use the title of "Princess" with her own given name, using her husband's instead. Diana would have been correctly called "Princess Charles." But, Diana had assumed a special title and was HRH, Diana, Princess of Wales. not needing to use any person's name with her title---she was the Princess of Wales, or Diana, Princess of Wales. The media had the opportunity to teach a lesson on title protocols and they failed.

Never forget it was DIANA who encouraged the media, to her own benefit once the marriage had gone sour.
