Isn't Iran the former and great empire of Persia? How did the fall so low, reduced to mere terrorists blacklisted by the US?

Once Iran was a modern, secular society with great potential.  But in the late 70s, Marxists were able to brainwash the masses with their albeit seemingly benign theories but poison in practice. This opened the door for religious fanatics to take over.  Just for a few years of left wing insanity the Iranian people have had to endure 40 years of suffering.  With the extremist tone of the Democratic primary debates you can see Americans are about to make the same mistake.

100% correct.  The Shahs were not perfect, but even they weren't as evil as the mullahs are today.

The Middle East used to be the source of civilization, mathematics, and astronomy.

    Now, it's a shithole.

It is because they adopted the shithole religion, Islam.

Islam is an inferior belief system which produces inferior cultures.

    Lolz

Radical Islamic barbarians invaded them in the 8th century.  Destroyed thousands of years of high culture and scientific advancement practically overnight.  A few moderate Muslims attempted to preserve some vestiges of the Persian advances that disingenuous modernists now somehow claim were great "Islamic Contributions to learning" but they were only able to preserve a small fraction of the wealth that was Persian Knowledge and Wisdom.

What Extreme Islam did to ravage Persia set the world back worse than the fire that burned the library at Alexandria.
