I was eating some tree bark but a squirrel started slapping me. Why did the squirrel start slapping me? He didn't own the bark. What gives?

Like, it wasn't even his bark it should've been fair game.

    Its quite simple-

The squirrel had a nest, with young in it, and you were getting too close to it! The squirrel was pawing you, as a way to defend its young and its home.

You would start slapping him too if he started nibbling on your pizza.

He was trying to keep you from putting his nuts in your mouth

I was handing a squirrel a nut the other day and he grabbed my finger and the nut fell and he actually made me bleed with his sharp little claws.  I'm glad he decided to resist slapping because that would hurt.

Squirrels do not slap. You must be hallucinating. They may bite, but not slap.

He’s just another someone who doesn’t like you, either.
