What ever happened to if you got a flat tire you changed it and went into work, not took the day off because of it?
Rather be late and still get paid than no show and lose out
First thing my dad taught me was how to change a tire

Our schools are turning-out more loogans who know everything about drugs and "gender dysphoria" but don't have the sense to come in out of the rain.

Some people hate working SO much, they don't really need much of an excuse to avoid it.

First thing your dad taught you is how to change a tire... that is very sad that he wasn't around when you were an infant or toddler.
It's also ridiculous that this is the first thing he decided to teach you. It would have been a much better less if he taught you how to manage a bank account or think for yourself.
Changing a tire is an obsolete skill.
- With modern tire construction, you will be about 85% less likely to get a flat tire than you were in the 1970s or before.
- With modern tire construction, you can typically drive the car short distances with flat tires.
Most people go decades without needing to change a tire. It would make no sense for someone who hasn't changed a tire for 20 years to say "my tire deflated. I'm going to stop here on the side of I-80 and change it"... that would just be DUMB!
The reason why many new cars don't come with spare tires, because they aren't needed.

It's BS, really. But it can also require a full day off because of how things are anymore. Some people don't keep spare tires in their vehicles. The kind of person that does this...I'll refrain from describing my personal thoughts on. It happens that some people don't have a spare tire so when they get a flat they have nothing to change the flat with that's drivable so they have to get the vehicle towed which takes time and it takes time at the tire shop to get a new tire etc etc excuse excuse....or they have to call a road side service to get it changed but most people don't think of that.
The other possibility is they're lazy or lying about the situation.

I worked for the orange hardware store (HD) for awhile and a late (even a few minutes) was the same penalty as not showing up.......except for the income loss, might as well take the day off you only got so many late/no show per 6 months period.

Lots of drivers these days don't know how to change a flat tire, so they have to wait for road service to come help them. Also, some newer cars don't HAVE a spare tire.

Because cars don’t carry real spares, they have donuts that say you’ll ruin your drive train if you drive with it for more than 10 miles. And the tires have all these fancy sensors in them that cost $2000 so they have to be taken into the shop and special patches have to be ordered in specifically for your make and model, and you have to find a payday loan center to afford it because Americans are kept so deep in debt that we can’t afford a pot to piss in.

Having a flat tire may be the reason for you being late....but it is not an excuse for being late.

you'd be an hour late to work and your pay docked for it. no big. just don't make this excuse a habit.
