Do snakes like being in enclosures with other snakes of the same species?

    If they are both males they don't like it. I once kept 2 male kingsnakes in the same cage, and they were using their bodies to shove each other (I thought one of them was a female). Males and females will get along just fine year round. Females will also get along with one another. They can smell the gender of their cage mates. Snake breeders have found that if they put two male snakes together they will induce combat behavior and then the winner will be more ready to mate. So, they often use this trick to induce mating in captive individuals.
