Many companies have their busiest season in December and need all of their employees at work. They can legally require that this is a period of no vacation.

  • Mine does and I work for a distribution company in their ware house. They black out employees from taking too much time off, when they're needed to work. I have to clear any time off with my supervisor and my manager with at least a month or two notice in advance, if I want to take a vacation in December.

Lots of companies have restrictions on vacations during certain times of year. It generally relates to seasonal business and December being a peak time, so that might include retail and some food service, but would also include places that manufacture items, shipping services, etc. I worked for a company that cut steaks and chops for high end restaurants, and we were always busy at the end of the year because of all the people going out for fancy meals, company parties, etc., and since they needed all hands on deck to get the work done, that meant no vacation time.

You either accept that is how it is at that employer or you find somewhere else to work. Complaining about it isn’t going to change the company policy.
