does it seem like western media wants to make sure people know that they need to eat a lot of "protein"? why this is?

why is protein so important? and why it seems like we are constantly reminded about that?

people in India are mostly vegetarian

When it comes to nutrition, believe the opposite of what the western media tells you. Hell, from time to time they try to convince us that essential vitamins cause cancer.

    You highlighted on TWO subjects:

    INDIA:

People in india are no longer as much vegetarian as they used to be.  (say thank you to the American and Western Influence on the younger indian generation).

A large percentage of Hindus are now 'mostly' vegetarians and sometimes eat meat on certain events.

    PROTEIN:

You asked why the MEDIA pushes protein.

         - You have to understand that the media wants to write a story. They want to sell their newspaper or get adverts on their website.   Without controversial or trending stories it is hard for them to be in business.   Media is a business.  The Meat Industry (obviously) does not want too many people going Vegan. This is a worrying time for them. (just like the cigarette industry paying off doctors and the FDA,  and funding misleading studies to help promote cigarettes in the 1950s to 1970's).  (watch the film:  "Thank you for Smoking").In the same way, the meat industry will try every trick in the book.   It will continue to attempt to scare people into eating more protein than they need.  on average, most people do not need more than 50 grams of protein per day.

The meat industry is, of course, huge. The media wants to be "popular", and as most people still eat meat they want their customers and readers to buy their newspapers, etc. Obviously we don't need protein from animals, as you include.

I have NEVER EVER seen any ad that claimed humans need a LOT of protein.

I see far more ads for drinking lots of fruit juice and we all know that is just nonsense as juice is nothing but concentrated sugar and calories.

Its essential. People need at least .4 grams per pound of ideal body weight daily if they are sedentary and at least .7 grams if they are active.

Vegetarians still eat protein. They just don't get it from meat.

Carbs and fat are only used for fuel, protein builds and repairs the body.

You never had biology classes in school? Vegetarians need protein too. They get it mostly from beans, or dairy products if they aren't vegan.
