NASCAR evolved from road racing so why did they adopt the boring circular tracks of horse racing?

I would like to see racing like in the movie "Gum Ball Express" I believe was the name. Race from Bristol to Las Vegas.

NASCAR evolved from moonshiners outrunning the federal revenue collectors.  The oval track already existed with auto racing, long before stock car racing began.  It was only natural to move to the track, though NASCAR does have a couple of road tracks on their schedule, Watkins Glen perhaps being the most famous.
