The one that has the most players, is the most talked about, never gets old, is timeless, everyone can relate to, everyone knows something about, and they keep reproducing, and isn't a one hit wonder. Which would probably be something old like pac-man, pong, or mario.

A fictional one called Better Than Life on the tv show Red Dwarf. It takes place in the future. Game developers created a method of total immersion by putting on a helmet that inserts probes directly into the thalamus and hypothalamus so it feels like you’re really there in the game. In the game Better Than Life, you get everything you wish for. Sex, power, money, adventure, revenge, closure. Anything you think of, it happens. The only downside is if you’re the type of person who always imagines horrible things are going to happen to you, because they will actually happen. The woman you just had sex with has 10 babies an hour later and you have to sell your awesome car to pay for the kids, she turns into an angry nag, your teeth rot and fall out, the bill collectors track you down and break your thumbs because you accidentally wished the last of your money away. And then when you try really hard to wish everything and everybody away, you end up on a deserted island buried up to your neck in sand next to a nest of killer ants and your face is smeared with strawberry jelly.

    it hasn't been made yet

at this point i think the most innovative ones are the high end vr games

down the road, there's machine learning to be applied, to things like content creation, and true, state of the art, ai game opponents, trained to operate at every level of difficulty, from beginner to beyond what's humanly possible.  i think this kind of thing could happen in the next 10 years maybe, but it depends on what the developers decide is worth attempting
