Smoking after tonsillectomy and adenoids removed ?

It’s been about 4 days since my surgery and I smoked a cigarette today and it wasn’t that bad and didn’t really hurt. I’m trying to understand why they say you can’t smoke after tonsillectomy? I’m not hemorrhaging or bleeding everywhere so is that a guide line or something that you just don’t do after surgery

Your throat is raw, you are breathing in chemicals in tobacco smoke, it can affect the healing and maybe start up bleeding.
