    Single replacement reactions ... halogen replacement series

    The activity series for the halogens is simple, it's right down the periodic table. Fluorine will replace Cl-, Br- and I-.  Chlorine will replace Br- and I-, but not F-.  Bromine will replace I-, but not F- or Cl-.  Iodine replaces none of them.

    Do you mean "Ba" or "Br" for (b)?

    Cl2(g) + NaF(aq) --> No reaction ... chlorine won't replace F-

    Br2(l) + FeCl3(aq) --> No reaction ... bromine won't replace Cl-

    Br2(l) + 2KI(aq) --> 2KBr(aq) + I2(s)

    Barium metal will react with the water the FeCl3 is in.  Barium will reduce iron(III) ions to iron(II) ion.  Some metallic iron may also form.

    Ba(s) + 2H2O(l) --> Ba(OH)2(s) + H2(g)

    Ba(s) + 2Fe^3+ --> 2Fe^2+ + Ba^2+

    Ba(s) + Fe^2+ --> Fe(s) + Ba^2+

    (c) 2KI + Br2 --> 2KBr + I2.

    (b) 3Ba + 2FeCl3 --> 3BaCl2 + 2Fe.

    (a) No reaction. The reaction would go the other way: F2 + 2NaCl --> 2NaF + Cl2.
