Is Trump going to quit like Nixon or face the trial in the senate ?
- StephenWeinsteinLv 71 month ago
He's not going to quit.
First, Nixon quit because he was expected to lose, and Trump isn't expected to lose.
Second, Nixon quit in part to spare the country from further conflict, discord, and disunity, but Trump seems to gloat in causing these things (and sometimes in blaming his opponents for them).

When Nixon resigned the majority of both houses were the democrats. (56 percent or better). So the needed defections from the party lines to get a conviction was much smaller. Right now the republicans have a slight edge at some 52% so the defections from the Republican party are not expected to yield enough for a removal from office.

The senate will let him slide

The Senate has already said that they with do anything to accommodate Trump. Gymnasium Jordan has a front row seat to watch Mitch blow him.

My guess there will be no trial in the Senate. In keeping with how unfair, contemptible this impeachment charge has been, the Senate should take the charge and vote to reject it without merit. Basically saying this is not impeachment quality. Something new to show their contempt for what the house democrats did. They have to do something like this to preserve the impeachment clause in the Constitution and not let it be abused.

There isn't going to be a SENATE TRIAL because the Democrats have never called factual witnesses with first hand information on Trump's fake crimes.
All they have are hearsay, rumor and innuendo witnesses and they aren't allowed in a Senate hearing because the Senators adhere a little more towards REAL LAW and not Adam Schiff's and Gerry Nadler's fabricated BULLSHlT !!

Nixon had 4 backers out of 100 in Senate. Goldwater told him he was not one of them. That was days leading up to impeachment. Nixon quit a day later.
tRump has about 53 backers. The Democrats have less than 67.

Trump has the full support of Mitch McConnell and his caucus. Get a clue. Even if Republicans weren't united behind the president, they would still have to have about a dozen defections, which is unheard of. Besides, Joe Manchin will find in the President's favor. So worry about your own house.
