What is in the small black bag that came with the lamb roast that I purchased?

I purchased a small lamb roast for the first time and there was a little black bag included. When I cut it open, there was red stuff inside. Does anyone know what this is? I'm assuming that it's blood? If it is, why would they include this with the lamb? Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Was it a flat rectangular bag?  If so it's there to soak up blood from the meat to make it look tidier in the packaging because modern consumers are squeamish.

The granules are silica gel, the same stuff in those little sachets that come in shoes and handbag. Just discard. The downside is that they stink in the trash because you can't rinse it like the rest of the packaging.

Sort of like a "diaper" under the meat to soak up any fluid.

Also common when you buy packaged beef or chicken.
