do office workers get sent home early if there's not much work to do in a 8 hr shift?

i assume since most of the 8 hr shift is spend looking at emails and talking to people over the phone, something u can do from home, they wouldnt bother sending u home since its a fixed salary instead of a hourly wage?

This is not normally what you can expect from an office job. Employers take people on at a minimum level, to reduce wage bills.

Your assumptions are incorrect - as always.

Your idea of what office workers do is NOT REMOTELY accurate.

If the employer thought it could be properly done from home, that would be offered to start with.

99% of office jobs ARE NOT salaried. In fact, 99% of salaried positions are NOT considered office jobs, even if the work is done in an office 6 feet from the 'office workers'.

No.  A smart salaried office worker would never appear not to be busy, even when there was little to do.  If there isn't enough work to do, there is a need for one less office worker.  Guess who?

Not if they're employed as a permanent full time worker.

depends.  there are different jobs within an office.  and each manager has their own style how they run their team.
