When you are ill, does alcohol really help?

Or is it an old wives tail?

    well, nyquil has 10% alcohol in it

    If i was sick I wouldn’t be able to stomach it, and no it would probably make u feel worse.

    For some ailments, like a bad cold, a hot toddy or other alcoholic drink may bring relief.

    Drinking it?  I've never heard that doing that would help.  But if you drink enough, it might help with pain.
