It could be nothing more than a brand name.  It could also be a maker's mark also known as a hallmark. If this is an old ring then the maker's mark will need to be appraised and identified by a professional appraser of vintage and antique jewelry. A quick search shows a bewildering assortment of "1894" type marks -everything from modern Sheffield in the UK to pre revolution Russia. If this was a gift and it is new then it's probably just a brand name.
